Catalyst Socket A Patch

Description

Recent Catalyst drivers BSOD with code 0x0000008E on Socket A systems with more than 1900MHz CPU clock. This problem has been investigated since quite some time at the VGA Forums by the user Anunnaki in this thread. He found out that the problem seems to only occur with CPU frequencies of more than 1900MHz. While several workarounds were found, none were really acceptable. Another user of the forum, _MetalliC_, has found the check for the frequency after a while. The patcher offered here is an automated way of removing the check in recent Catalyst drivers. It seems to work with Catalyst drivers version 8.5 up to 8.12 for 32-bit Windows XP and Windows Vista.

Thanks go to:
  • _MetalliC_ from VGA Forums for finding the check in ati3duag.dll
  • Anunnaki from VGA Forums for investigating this problem as thoroughly
  • player1 from VGA Forums for finding out there was still a check left

Usage

Run the included .exe file in the Safe Mode (F8 at system start).
